IEdie, Operation IE Bye Bye actually began in February, 2008. After becoming completely fed up with fixing Internet Explorer 6 compatibility issues on the websites I was building for clients, I wrote this article for Themebot: DIE IE - Down with Internet Explorer. At that time, I vowed to cease supporting IE6, not only for my own website projects, but also for any future websites I would be building. If a client wasn't okay with that, they could find somebody else to build the website for them.
The problem is, if you don't bloat the website code with workarounds to fix IE6 display issues, the website will more than likely look terrible when viewed in Internet Explorer 6. The visitor will have the impression that there is something wrong with the website, not realizing that they are using an obsolete web browser.
This isn't just an issue that causes headaches for web masters, there are significant security risks to users who are still browsing the web with Internet Explorer 6.
